With our guests, <strong>Kien Nghi Ha<\/strong> and <strong>Tr\u1ea7n Th\u1ecb Thu Trang<\/strong>, we talk about the city&#8217;s politics of remembrance, the &#8220;forgetting&#8221; of the victims&#8217; perspective and how the next generation deals with the trauma.<\/p>\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/anchor.fm\/doing-memory\/embed\/episodes\/S1F02-Erinnern-und-Vergessen--Rostock-Lichtenhagen-e1fthfd\" height=\"140px\" width=\"400px\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About the event<\/h4>\n\n<p>Between August 22 and 26, 1992, massive racist violence took place in Rostock-Lichtenhagen against people in the Central Admission Centre for Asylum Seekers (ZAst) and at a shelter for Vietnamese contract workers in the so-called Sonnenblumenhaus (Sunflower House). Several hundred right-wing extremists took part in the riots. In addition, up to 3,000 applauding spectators obstructed the fire brigade and police.<\/p>\n\n<p>On Monday, August 24, 1992, the ZAst was evacuated. The accommodation, where more than 100 Vietnamese contract workers were staying, was set on fire with Molotov cocktails. On the same day, the police officers withdrew. The people trapped in the burning house were left to fend for themselves.
